I am a huge believer that food allergies/sensitivities can create different symptoms in each person. Think of it this way, every single person in this world has a different fingerprint. We have different genetic make ups. So why would we all experience the same textbook reactions?
Case in point: I received this email and wanted to share in case one of you was going through the same thing. Hearing about an experience from someone who has lived it makes it so much more compelling. These brave parents made dietary changes that have resulted in no surgery for their daughter and best of all she feels better. That is all of the proof you need!
I have taken some of your suggestions and have seen major changes in my daughter. For example, about 4 months ago we had her hearing checked as she is behind with her speech development. I never would have considered checking her hearing as she always appeared to understand everything we said. She just was not able to express much back to us. The hearing test indicated that she had mild hearing loss due to fluid. At this point, both my husband and I began to panic, thinking we have to fix this. Our doctor made an appointment for an ENT however it was a three month wait to get in for the initial consult. We were worried about her falling even further behind so we took her to the US to meet with a Pediatric ENT. She recommended having tubes put in her ears. We were tempted to have the surgery immediately to fix the problem, but decided to get a second opinion and wait to see the ENT here in Ontario. In the meantime, we reduced the amount of dairy in her diet to almost none. I had been following your website posts and also remember past naturopaths taking about dairy and all the problems associated with the consumption of dairy. I never really paid attention since dairy has always been a large part of my diet and I never had any issues (so I thought). Well to make a long story short, we ended up seeing the ENT here recently. Our daughter’s ears are now fluid free and her hearing is no longer a problem based on their testing. On top of this, ever since I can remember, she has had a phlegmy cough that doctors repeatedly told me was not in her chest. She also had very loose bowel movements, constant diaper rash and eczema. Since we have virtually eliminated dairy, all of these symptoms have been dramatically reduced. I can’t believe it! For almost two years she has been living with these constant problems. We both now believe now that she does not tolerate dairy. We believe that this is most likely why the fluid in her ears is gone and the congestion she has always had is also gone. No more crazy diaper rashes either Even in the last 3-4 months since we stopped dairy, she is talking much more and a lot more confident trying to articulate words. We are so happy to see this improvement. My sister was was even here last week and can’t believe the changes.
We are also now avoiding artificial food colouring and recently started giving our daughter some of the food that you recommend. We avoid all soy and have reduced the amount of gluten (especially wheat) that we feed her. Next I am going to try to find an alternative for corn. She loves corn but I had no idea how ‘dangerous’ it can be for us. We have switched to real maple syrup and have really started to scrutinize the labels of the food that we buy.
Thanks so much for your website. I think the messages that you are sending are so important.
