Product Review: Hy’s No MSG Added Seasoning Salt

One of my favourite spices for barbecuing meat is Hy’s Seasoning Salt. It seems to work with everything and it’s almost like a comfort thing for me because I have been using it for so long.

Recently Hy’s came out with an MSG free version. At first glance it seemed like a great thing except that they have substituted MSG for soybean oil (most likely GMO). I’ve often thought abut this. Does a GMO trump MSG in the health department? To me they are one in the same because I try not to feed my family either if I can help it.

Ingredients in regular Hy’s:
Salt, Spice (including red pepper) Monosodium Glutamate, Garlic and Onion Powder, Calcium Silicate

Ingredients is HY’s No MSG Added:
Salt, Spice (including Red Pepper), Garlic and Onion Powder, Soybean Oil, Calcium Silicate.

I’m disappointed that I have to find a new spice to use but on the flip side I am finding that there are many other good ones out there. I will post a list soon.
