The number one comment I hear about eliminating dairy from the diet is that it costs too much. Yes, there are higher priced stores, with higher priced products. But if you put in the work to cook a meal (nothing from a package) you will be surprised to find how easy it is to get into the swing of things. You will have leftovers & happy kids willing to eat them. You will have to shop more often, which is hard especially with more parents working in the past faced world we live in. You will have to go to places like Superstore and deal with the line ups and bagging your own groceries. Meal planning is essential. Price comparing is too. It will take up more of your time. That being said, kids are worth it.
There are major supermarkets that offer rice milk & almond milk at lower prices which makes dairy free living easier. Just last week at Safeway I saw 2/$4.00 on Rice Dream and Almond Breeze. Superstore has cheaper non dairy frozen treats than some national brands of ice cream. Manufacturers are more on board with dairy free alternatives than ever because more consumers are looking for it.
Is eating dairy free more work? Yes, but there are so many new dairy free products out there that it is becoming easier and easier.
Is eating dairy free more expensive? No. Once you get used to shopping and know where to look it isn’t. It’s just like starting anything new, it takes a bit of work.
